Design couch: treat or trick + MMQ part three

It's a Design COUCH! not a wall!! I even managed to keep the felines away for five minutes! Of course, food was involved...

Part Three of the Modern Mystery Quilt is back to rectangles. Does that mean part Four will be circular again??? who knows, thus the mystery!
Eighteen blocks: 2.5-5inches by 14-18 inches.

TRICK OR TREAT:

I haven't decided what to use for the binding.
I will add a photo once it's on the wall later this week.

MMQ 1 + 2

MODERN MYSTERY QUILT PART TWO:
30 HALF CIRCLES IN OUR FIELD [BACKGROUND] FABRIC. Plus 15 skinny strips; I'd like to find a solid? I looked for an orange and blue in may stash, but only found orange and purple. Thought I found blue and brown, but it looks purple next to the blue background. I'm thinking a brown orange, blue and green leafy batik, maybe.

SO here is half of the circles and the rectangles from part one. The other cirlces repeat the same fabrics. The colors are a little washed out in this photo.

Here is the piece I'm considering for the skinny strips. Of course we don't know where they go in the quilt...

AND just for fun, a quick baby quilt: a large striped print on one side, and soft (green) flannel on the back.

WHAT ARE THEY DOING?

HONEYBEES in my [empty] flower pots?
Are they drinking?
there is plenty of water around....

MMQ part 1 [b]

MODERN MYSTERY QUILT PART 1b
OKAY...I wasn't happy with the other choice [see previous entry].
So I went back with my original color scheme.
Here are my fabrics:

The blue batik is the background, or "field" fabric,

Here are my Blocks:

...not a great shot of the second set.

I've started Part 2.
Hope to finish it tomorrow, but the weather is too nice not to spend most of the day working in the yard...

I will make the other set into something later.

MMQ-1

AQS is sponsoring a modern mystery quilt:
http://www.quiltviews.com/modern-mystery-quilt-part-1
Designed by Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr, it's FREE.

So I originally planned to use batiks with a robin's egg blue background, but decided instead to use the modern approach; white background with oranges and reds. [I don't remember when I last used a white background!] I did use an inspiration fabric to pull colors. Amazingly, it was not a batik. I don't remember buying it.

So here are my fabrics:

and the inspiration fabric:

And the first ten blocks:

I may take out one of the skinny long orange ones and add another fat red block.

It's Friday!

two small batik quilts.
I'm going to mount them on foamcore.
here is a tutorial:

It's a little messy, and time intensive, but fun.

silk scarves

I have been dying silk scarves with Procion MX Dyes. There are several online classes. Marjie McWilliams teaches one [Silk Dyeing] at QuiltUniversity.com It is well done and very reasonably priced.
Here are some close ups:
Colorhue silk dyes are an easy way to dyes scarves. They set instantly. Less mess. Marlene Glickman sells these [http://silkdyes.com/supplies.html] as do several other vendors such as Dharma trading [http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/10503535-AA.shtml?lnav=dyes.html]
Which do I like better? They have advantages and disadvantages. I always have Procion MX dyes on hand. And for dyeing yardages of fabric, I would choose Procion. And I now feel comfortable using them on silk. Colorhue dyes are great. Quick. Less mess. Instant gratifcation. I have a little trouble creating deep saturated colors with the Colorhue dyes. I'll probably continue to use both!
